A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the Boiketlo area of Casteel following a firearm-related incident at a local school.
Police allege that on Saturday night, 30 August 2025, the suspect pointed a firearm at a security guard stationed at the school. Acting swiftly, detectives launched an investigation which led to the suspect’s arrest on Tuesday, 2 September 2025.
During a search of the suspect’s home, police discovered a firearm with its serial numbers filed off, along with three rounds of ammunition hidden under the bed. The weapon has been seized and will undergo ballistic testing to determine if it has been used in any other crimes.
The suspect now faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, as well as pointing a firearm at a person. He is expected to appear in the Acornhoek Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 3 September 2025.
