The community of Croquetlawn came alive over the weekend as the much-anticipated Top 8 Soccer Tournament kicked off on 27–28 September 2025.
Hosted by local side Xamankulu, formed just last year in June, the tournament brought together eight spirited teams who battled it out for bragging rights and prize money. The event was made possible through a sponsorship of R3 000, with each team contributing a R500 registration fee.
Saturday’s opening clashes whittled the competition down to four semi-finalists: Xamankulu, Bunya Selesele, Allandale Dakies and Home Supers. Supporters filled the sidelines with cheers and vuvuzelas as the teams fought hard for a spot in the final.
Sunday’s finale saw a thrilling showdown between Home Supers and Bunya Selesele. With determination and sharp teamwork, Bunya Selesele sealed their victory with a convincing 2–0 win.
The champions walked away with R5 000 in prize money, while runners-up Home Supers received R2 000 for their efforts. Local resident Bright Khosa praised the tournament’s impact on the community:
“It was wonderful to see the teams compete and the whole community come together. Events like this give our young people hope and keep them motivated.”
Buoyed by the excitement both on and off the field, residents are already anticipating more tournaments in future, with expectations that they will be even bigger and better.
