The police in Calcutta have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally shot during a violent attack at a tavern in Jim Brown, Marite, on Friday night, 31 October 2025.
According to police reports, officers received a complaint about a shooting incident around 22:00 and rushed to the scene. Upon their arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a man in the bushes near the main road. Paramedics who attended the scene certified him dead.
Preliminary information suggests that the victim had been at the tavern when three armed suspects arrived and opened fire on his vehicle, a silver-grey Mahindra. The suspects allegedly entered the tavern afterwards and continued firing shots, forcing terrified patrons to flee for safety.
The victim reportedly ran out of the tavern, but the gunmen pursued and shot at him until he collapsed outside the premises. The suspects then fled the scene in a white VW Polo.
Police later discovered that the victim’s firearm was missing from its safe, and it is suspected that it may have been stolen during the attack.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and no arrests have been made. Police investigations are ongoing.
Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Detective Lieutenant Colonel Sikhumbuzo Ceko on 082 922 9902.
