Eighty sheep worth R232 000 that had been stolen from one of the nearby farms were found by Daggakraal police working with the Langfontein group and the farmers’ cooperation in the area. A 24-year-old suspect was also taken into custody. On Thursday, July 11, 2024, a farm worker realized that the sheep were missing. After that, the sheep were found. He told his employer right away, and he promptly told the other members of the group.
Following the trails, the farmers found the suspect’s kraal not far from the farm from which the sheep had been stolen. It was proven that the sheep were driven past the point where the fence was cut. The farmers informed the police after figuring out where the sheep were being kept. The stolen sheep were found when the cops arrived. The brand marks allowed for a solid identification of the sheep. After being discovered on the property, the 24-year-old suspect was taken into custody for having stolen livestock. On Monday, July 15, 2024, the suspect is scheduled to appear before the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court.
Since then, police have launched an inquiry to see if any more suspects are connected to the theft. Major General (Dr.) Zeph Mkhwanazi, the acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, praised the farmers for abstaining from breaking the law. “The arrest of the suspect might help to solve other similar cases where farmers lost their livestock as a result of thefts,” said the Attorney General.
