South African National Parks (SANParks) proudly announced the addition of 33 new Field Rangers to the Kruger National Park (KNP) during a passing-out parade held on 3 September 2024 in Skukuza. These graduates are the result of a rigorous selection and training process, designed to enhance the park’s Law Enforcement and Biodiversity Conservation efforts.
The new recruits underwent a thorough Pre-Selection and Selection process in July 2024, which included physical fitness tests, evaluations, cognitive and aptitude assessments, interviews, and teamwork evaluations. Following this, they completed an intense six-week Basic Field Ranger Training course, which equipped them with the necessary skills to protect and manage the park’s resources.
Their immediate deployment across various sections of the park is crucial to strengthening the existing ranger corps. The KNP is divided into 22 ranger sections, each overseen by a Section Ranger and supported by a team of field rangers. These teams are further bolstered by Regional Rangers, the Environmental Crime Investigations Unit, Protection Services, Special Operations Unit, K9 Unit, and Air Services Unit, all working towards the park’s Law Enforcement and Biodiversity Conservation goals.
The addition of these 33 Field Rangers is seen as a significant step in safeguarding the integrity of the Kruger National Park, ensuring that its natural heritage remains protected for future generations.
