Visitors to Kruger National Park are beginning to see improved access after the severe January 2026 floods, which damaged roads, bridges, tourism facilities and staff accommodation across the park.
In an update issued on Monday, 2 February 2026, SANParks confirmed that restoration work is continuing, with visitor safety remaining the top priority.
The park’s H7 Route between Orpen Gate and Satara Rest Camp has now reopened to traffic. However, motorists have been cautioned to proceed with extreme care near the Nsemani Dam area, where flood damage has left only a single lane accessible. Heavy vehicles exceeding eight tonnes are not permitted through the affected section.
To maintain movement while repairs and reconstruction continue, the parks authority said it is building a bypass using the S12 and S40 routes. This alternative route is expected to support accessibility during ongoing work at the dam area.
Several visitor sites have also reopened as of Monday. These include Tsendze Rustic Camp near Mopani Rest Camp, the Masorini Ruins near Phalaborwa Gate, as well as the Mooiplaas Picnic Site and Babalala Picnic Site picnic sites.
SANParks reminded visitors that gravel roads marked “No Entry” must not be used under any circumstances. Access at Orpen Gate has also been opened to Open Safari Vehicles, though a quota system will apply to manage traffic volumes and keep visitors safe.
