Residents of Ward 5 in Alexandria, Marite, are set to engage directly with local leadership as Bushbuckridge Local Municipality Executive Mayor, Lydia Matlanatso Moroane, hosts a community imbizo aimed at addressing pressing service delivery concerns.
The engagement, scheduled for Ward 5, will bring together community members from Alexandria and surrounding areas to raise issues affecting their daily lives and interact with government representatives. The Mayor has urged residents to attend in large numbers to ensure their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
Public participation remains a cornerstone of South Africa’s democratic framework, underpinned by constitutional provisions that promote community involvement in governance processes. Legislation such as the Municipal Systems Act and the Promotion of Administrative Justice Act further reinforces the importance of transparency, accountability and inclusive decision-making at local government level.
In line with these principles, the imbizo will not only serve as a platform for dialogue but will also provide access to essential government services. Departments expected to be on site include Health, Social Development, Home Affairs, Municipal Health, Fire and Rescue, and Disaster Management.
Residents will benefit from services such as mobile clinic support, HIV testing and general health screenings, among others. Officials say the initiative is particularly important in light of ongoing criminal activities and recent disaster-related challenges affecting communities in and around Ward 5.
The municipality has emphasised that the imbizo forms part of broader efforts to strengthen community engagement, improve service delivery, and respond effectively to the needs of residents across Bushbuckridge.
