Mpumalanga MEC for Education, Ms Lindi Masina, has urged Grade 12 learners in Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Local Municipality to rise to the challenge and make 2025 a year of excellence.
Addressing learners on 28 August as part of the Provincial Executive Council Outreach Programme, the MEC reminded them that education remains the key to transforming not only their own lives but also their communities and the future of Mpumalanga — the Province of the Rising Sun.
Mpumalanga recorded an 84.9% pass rate in 2024, with the Gert Sibande District achieving an impressive 87.7%, placing the province among the top performers nationally. MEC Masina challenged this year’s matric class to surpass those results through hard work, discipline and determination.
“My beloved learners, the future is in your hands. Respect your teachers, stay focused, and make every day count. If the Class of 2024 could do it, you can do it even better. Do it for yourselves, your families, Mpumalanga, and South Africa,” she said.
She further encouraged learners to embrace values such as humility, integrity, discipline and perseverance — qualities she described as essential for a winning learner. The MEC emphasised that success is within reach for every pupil who remains committed to their studies and believes in their dreams.
The learners welcomed the MEC’s motivational message, pledging to redouble their efforts in preparation for the final examinations. Many expressed confidence that, with the support of their teachers and parents, they could achieve even greater results than last year’s class.
The outreach formed part of the provincial government’s broader effort to engage communities and ensure that young people are empowered to play an active role in shaping their own futures.
With the 2025 National Senior Certificate examinations fast approaching, the MEC’s call for focus, resilience and excellence has set a determined tone for the matric cohort of Dr Pixley Ka Isaka Seme Municipality.
