The Mpumalanga Portfolio Committee on Public Works, Roads and Transport has called on the Department to strengthen service delivery and accountability following its review of the 2026/27 first-quarter performance report.

The Committee, led by Chairperson Sonto Malepeng, met with MEC Thulasizwe Thomo and departmental officials on 11 August 2026 at the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.

Members questioned the Department on its progress, challenges and measures to address areas of underperformance. The Committee stressed the need to ensure that planned programmes translate into quality infrastructure and tangible services for communities.

MEC Thomo reaffirmed the Department’s commitment to accountability, responsible use of public funds and improved service delivery across Mpumalanga.

The engagement forms part of the Legislature’s ongoing oversight to ensure government programmes are implemented effectively and public resources are used responsibly.
