A tragic incident in Seshego has left the community in shock after a three-year-old girl was found dead inside a locked vehicle on Monday, 27 October 2025.
Police confirmed that a culpable homicide case has been opened at Seshego Police Station following the child’s untimely death.
According to reports, police were alerted at around 15:10 to Seshego Hospital, where they discovered a blue Toyota Corolla Cross parked in the hospital yard. A medical practitioner informed officers that the child had been found locked inside the car with the windows closed. Despite efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene, having succumbed to extreme heat and lack of oxygen.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the mother had left her daughter in the vehicle earlier that morning, at approximately 07:00, while attending a handover session at the medical facility. It appears she forgot about the child until the devastating discovery later that afternoon.
Police have confirmed that a post-mortem will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Authorities have reminded the public of the severe dangers of leaving children unattended in vehicles, even for a short period.
