A tragic accident on the R33 highway near Carolina in Mpumalanga claimed five lives on Monday night. An articulated truck carrying logs overturned around 9:30 pm, killing male passengers and injuring 3 others, including the driver.
The injured were rushed to Carolina Provincial Hospital. It is suspected that the driver lost control before the truck rolled, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Emergency crews remain on the scene as the road is currently closed to traffic. Motorists are urged to avoid the area as the cleanup continues in order to prevent secondary accidents.

MEC for Community Safety Vusi Shongwe offered condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a full recovery. “We mourn this great loss of life and urge all drivers to exercise caution on our roads,” he stated.
