At just 21 years old, Dr. Thakgalo Thibela made history as the youngest female doctor in South Africa.

After skipping multiple grades in primary and high school due to her academic excellence, Thibela started medical school at 16 on a scholarship.

She graduated top of her class from Wits University with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2020.

“I became a doctor because I wanted to help people,” Thibela said.

Despite being ready and willing to serve anywhere in the country, she remains unemployed along with over 800 other doctors in South Africa.

With her incredible mind and determination, this remarkable 24-year-old woman is poised to make a huge impact as a medical professional.

Her story serves as an inspiration to youth everywhere to dream big and work hard no matter their circumstances.
