NPA to Conduct Independent Investigation After Matlala Withdraws Plea Agreement.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it will conduct its own investigation after Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala withdrew from his plea agreement, rendering his statement unusable as evidence.

Matlala appeared briefly in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Monday, where the case was postponed to 11 September.

The NPA confirmed that, following the withdrawal of the plea agreement, it cannot rely on the statement Matlala made as part of the arrangement. Prosecutors indicated that the matter will now proceed through an independent investigation to gather admissible evidence.

The case is expected to return to court on 11 September as investigations continue.
