The R40 road between Acornhoek and Bushbuckridge was barricaded again this
morning, January 29, by service delivery protesters at Rainbow Village and
Motlamogale bridge in Casteel near Usave. Motorists should avoid the area and use
alternative routes.
Community members are demanding action from the MEC for public works and roads
regarding promised upgrades to the R40. Schools in Casteel have been affected by the
barricades, along with residents unable to access workplaces, hospitals, clinics, and
other services.
Protesters feel previous commitments to improve the vital transportation link have not
been fulfilled. Barricading the road is aimed at spurring officials to address the
neglected state of the R40.
This marks the latest flare-up of activism centred on alleged unfulfilled government
pledges to upgrade the R40. Ongoing barricades and demonstrations signal growing
